Sticky Currant · Ribes viscosissimum

Description: An erect deciduous shrub 3 to 6 feet tall. Leaves alternate, maplelike, with three to five rounded lobes and palmate veins. Foliage covered with downy hair and glands that exude a sticky fluid. Stems are thornless. Blooms from May to June, in creamy white racemes of six to twelve flowers. Fruits are unpalatable, bluish black berries with sticky, smelly glands. Sticky Currant grows on forested slopes from British Columbia to California, east to Alberta and Colorado.
